Get Lucky! March Savings Challenge-Free Printable

This March you don’t need a leprechaun and rainbow to find money, use a savings challenge instead!

There are 31 days in March so don’t let a single day pass without saving some money towards bigger goals. You can use the money to splurge, pay off debt, or fill your sinking funds.

How to Pick a Savings Goal?

I like to use the priority method for picking savings goals. Basically, you make a list of all the things or events you would like to save money for like Spring Break, Summer Vacation, pay off a credit card, or get a new haircut.

(Pro Tip: If you’re going to rent a hotel on vacation- check out these tips in “How Far in advance should I book a Hotel Room?“.)

I would list these in the order of priority based on what I want and when it is needed buy. Spring Break is coming quicker then Summer Vacation, so it is placed higher. Paying off a credit card is definitely a need and getting a new haircut is a want.

So, for the month of March, I am going to pay off $500 towards my credit card! This is the highest priority item on my list.

How does a Savings Challenge Work?

Now that I have my goal of $500, I will divide it by 31 days. That means that each of the shamrocks in the savings challenge is worth $16.13. I had to round up a little, so at the end of the month I will have a total of $500.03.

Every day I am going to try to save $16.13 and when I accomplish it, I will color in one of the shamrocks.

Where does the money come from for Savings Challenges?

There are multiple ways to save money for a savings challenge. The easiest way is to cut this money from my variable spending like groceries and gas. Now I will probably not be able to cut all $500 dollars from variable spending, but I am pretty sure I can cut probably $150.

This may mean that I am going to rely heavily on my pantry and freezer this month and only buy the basics at the grocery store.

This also could be limiting trips in the car or combining errands to use less gas.

Another fun way to make some extra money is to sell off any unused items around the house or outgrown items like toys and clothes. We can have a yard sale or put the items up for sale on Mercari, Poshmark, or Facebook.

I could also try out DoorDash or Instacart to make some extra money too!

Think outside the box and try something new. If it doesn’t work out, it’s okay because it was just a temporary side hustle. You can also offer to babysit or do some oddjobs for money.

The whole point is to save money I already have or make some extra money.
