Sprouts vs Publix: Who is Cheaper?
Sprouts is a grocery store that is available in 20+ states and focuses on offering organic and natural options. Publix is mainly in the southeast, but they also offer a lot of organic and natural options as well.
To find out if Sprouts or Publix has cheaper prices for groceries, we will make a meal plan and then compare prices on our grocery list. Scroll to the end to find out who is cheaper!
Is Sprouts more expensive than Publix?

Snacks
- Apples
- Carrot sticks with ranch dressing
- Tortilla Chips
Sweet Treat
- Vanilla Ice Cream with Pancake Syrup
For this price comparison, I am using prices available in Birmingham, Alabama. I will be selecting items for our meal plan that are the absolute cheapest.
This means mostly generic store brand options and the smallest size needed. This may not be the best value, but we are going for the cheapest option.
We are assuming that we already have kitchen basics like cooking oil, seasonings, salt/pepper, and baking powder at home. Everything else needed for the meal plan will need to be purchased.

In the produce section, Sprouts came out cheaper with a total of $15.62. This was $2.61 cheaper than Publix’s total of $18.23.
It is worth noting that we did get 1 more pound of apples at Publix, but we ended up iceberg lettuce so that kind of evens out.
