Grocery Price Showdown: Santa Rosa, California
This week we had a ton of options for grocery price comparisons! Most places, just have 3-5 grocery stores available, but this time we had 11 stores that offered online orders.
For our meal plan this week, we did 6 Dinners for Under $60 in Santa Rosa, California. We took our grocery list and used it to place online orders at all the local supermarkets.
Here is the list of Grocery Stores that we compared this week:
- Walmart
- Pacific Market
- Target
- Molsberry Market
- Smart & Final
- Safeway
- Lucky’s Supermarket
- Raley’s
- Food Maxx
I was very surprised this week in the difference in the total between each of the stores!
Grocery List for the Comparison
Here is the list we used at each store.
If you want to see the dinners that goes with this list, head over to Week #26’s meal plan!
Grocery Totals
Here are the totals from each store that we were able to place online orders!
I was also surprised at how many stores didn’t carry all the items or the items were out of stock. (Those stores are marked with a * next to the total)
It is also worth noting that some of these stores used Instacart for online shopping so some of their prices may be higher than if we had gone inside the store to shop!
Here are the cost breakdowns:
Would shopping multiple stores save money?
We always like to take the 2 lowest total stores and see if shopping there will come out cheaper than Walmart.
If we had only bought the cheapest items at Food Maxx and Grocery Outlet, our total would have been $66.07.
That was still $6.09 more expensive than Walmart’s total of $59.98.
Food For Thought
So once again, Walmart easily came out as the cheapest options for groceries in the Santa Rosa, CA area. Food Maxx and Grocery Outlet came out pretty reasonable but still higher.
While it was nice to see a large variety of stores available in the area, I was disappointed in the prices available at some of the stores. More competition in the area is supposed to help prices right?
Well, not this time unfortunately. If you live in this area, I would try to really watch the sales flyers each week and grab the deals when you can!
