Grocery Price Showdown: Safeway vs Lucky’s

Today we are going to compare prices at Safeway and Lucky Supermarket, to see which one comes out cheaper for grocery prices!

I like to make this comparison with an actual real meal plan for a week. I feel like just picking random items doesn’t really give a good idea of what it would be like to grocery shop at each place.

Key Takeaways

  • Both stores had lots of items on sale, but Safeway was cheaper by $3.54.
  • Lucky’s had better prices in produce and meat. Safeway was cheaper in the pantry secton.
  • Both stores were about 35% higher than our Walmart total.

Food for Thought

My goal every week is to be under $100 for groceries, and neither store really came close. So, let’s see if shopping both stores would help!

If we only bought what was cheaper at each grocery store, our total would have been $127.22. That would have been an additional savings of $17.05 or about 12%.

As long as I had the time to go to both places or do an online order, I think it would have been worth saving the extra $17. It didn’t get us below $100, but it definitely got us closer!
