Meal Plan for Busy Moms at Walmart (Week #48)

As much as I love to cook homemade meals for my family, there are always weeks that I just know are going to be insane. Next week my kids are out of school for holiday break, lots of last-minute Christmas shopping, lots of never-ending errands, and a little traveling too!

It is just not going to be possible to spend a whole lot of time to prep and make dinner every night. We should just order takeout, right? Nope, we are going to make some super easy Plan B style meals. The kind that takes very little time and very little energy. (Me personally, I lose all my energy when I am stressed about time)

This week is all about yummy kid-friendly meals that are affordable. We are sticking with our $70 budget for 6 dinners and dessert at Walmart. Our total this week was $66.05 at the Neighborhood Market Walmart in Mobile, Alabama.

These smaller Walmart stores tend to have a smaller selection and slightly higher prices, so you could probably get your total lower just by shopping at a Walmart Super Center!

Busy Weeknight Meals

1. KFC Bowls with Green Beans

You can change this up and use Country Style gravy, white pepper gravy, and so much more! Definitely use whatever gravy you already have at home!

2. Garlic Bread Pizza with Salads

Pizzas are not only kid-friendly, but they are also a great way to use up leftovers! Don’t be afraid to use up some leftover meats and veggies on your pizza.

3. Chicken Snack Wraps with Tots

Ever since I heard McDonald’s is bringing back their Snack Wraps, I knew that I had to include the DIY version in a menu!

4. Double Decker Tacos with Rice

Double Decker tacos not your thing? Don’t worry about it, just grab a different style kit. Do a little price comparison to see if it is worth getting plain taco shells or get a kit with the taco seasoning.

5. Eggnog French Toast & Sausage

I am a HUGE fan of Eggnog…but after a small glass or two I start to wonder what else I can do with it! That was how we ended up with Eggnog French Toast.

6. Creamy Chicken Tortilla Soup

This is one of those great last-minute soups that really just uses pantry items. Don’t be afraid to mix and match based on what you already have. Try some pinto beans or kidney beans. Use a can of mixed veggies or canned carrots.

Dessert: Iced Brownies

Now we could have done just iced brownies and called it good, but next week is Christmas. So why not throw a little extra holiday cheer on top of the brownies? Personally, I love to grab holiday candies at Dollar Tree, but you can find some great small bags/boxes of candy almost anywhere!

Low-Cost Fruit Options to Add:

I am a huge fan of adding fruit to dinners. This small, yummy part helps kids know they will love at least something on their plate.

So, whenever I have a little wiggle room in my budget, I try to pick up 2-3 fruits to add to meals. Here are some good options that you can this week! (Try mixing fresh fruit and canned fruit together for some added variety)

It’s also been shown that most Americans don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables, so add some to your dinner! (Remember you don’t need a ton of fruit either, just a 1/4 to 124 a cup can help fill you up at meal time.)
