Grocery Price Showdown: Grocery Outlet vs Safeway

Today we are going to do a price comparison of prices between Grocery Outlet and Safeway. We will be using a real grocery list for a family of four, so this should be very realistic.

Safeway is a major grocery retailer and part of the Albertsons company. Grocery Outlet is a discount grocery retailer so we will see if this helps keep their prices lower.

Key Takeaways

  • Safeway had a good amount of items on sale this week that we needed.
  • Grocery Outlet did not carry 6 of the items we needed.
  • Technically Grocery Outlet was cheaper but they didn’t have all the items, so really Safeway won!

Grocery Outlet did come out cheaper but that was because they didn’t have 6 of the items we needed this week.

Food for Thought

Since Grocery Outlet didn’t have all the items, we would have to go to both stores. Let’s see if this could potentially save us some money!

If we only buy the items at each store that are in stock and the cheapest, our total would have been $117.78.

That potentially would have saved us $8.19 (about 6%). I would say it would be better to go to both places to get the best prices overall and get all the needed items.
