Grocery Price Totals
Here is the list of Gainesville, FL grocery stores in order from cheapest to most expensive.
Some of the grocery stores did not have all the items, so there is a * next to their total.
It is also worth noting that some of these stores (Publix & Save A Lot) used Instacart for online shopping so some of their prices may be higher than if we had gone inside the store to shop!
Here are the cost breakdowns:
Would shopping multiple stores save money?
We always like to see if going to multiple stores will beat the Walmart’s total. This week the two cheapest stores were Save A Lot and Target.
By only shopping the cheapest priced items at these two stores, our total would have been $64.40.
That was a significant savings compared to their regular totals ($76.90 & $78.97) but unfortunately still came out $6.95 more expensive than Walmart’s total of $57.45.
Food For Thought
Once again, Walmart easily came out as the cheapest Grocery Store this week. I was surprised that Target did as well as they did, because their prices can be really hit or miss.
It is worth noting that one of the main reasons that Aldi didn’t do well this week, is because a lot of their items only come certain sizes. Like I could only purchase 5lbs of potatoes, I had to buy 2lb of onions, and their smallest option for boneless chicken was still over $10.
Now as far as value goes, some of the items were more for your dollar, but Aldi was definitely not the “cheapest.”
If you reside in the Gainesville, FL area I would definitely take advantage of all the weekly sales flyers and really pay attention to some of deals available. I noticed lots of great prices at Hitchcock and Winn Dixie!
