Grocery Price Showdown: Derry New Hampshire

We did another menu this week that included 6 yummy dinners and a delicious dessert for all under $70 at Walmart! Our total was only $68.31 at the Super Walmart in Derry, New Hampshire.

Now if you are a not a huge fan of shopping at Walmart and choose to shop elsewhere that is totally fine! So, let’s see what the same meal plan would cost at other local grocery stores in this area.

We try to stay within 20 miles and this week we used the zip code 03038. Studies have shown that most people live, work, and shop within 20 miles.

Here is the list of stores this week:

  • Hannaford
  • Price Rite
  • Market Basket
  • Target
  • Aldi
  • Stop & Shop
  • Shaw’s

These were all the local stores that offered online shopping for delivery or for pick-up orders.

Derry, NH Grocery Store Prices from Cheapest to Highest

Here is how the local stores stacked up this week:

Please note that Price Rite, Aldi, and Stop & Shop were missing at least one item on the list this week, so their total does not include all items on the list.

Price Rite and Market Basket used Instacart for their online orders, so their prices may actually be cheaper in store!

Here is the breakdown of all the grocery prices:

What if we shopped multiple stores?

If we had the time and energy to shop both Price Rite and Market Basket this week, we may be able to save a few bucks! (We did not include Aldi this week even though they were #3 because they were missing 3 items on the list.)

By only buying what was cheapest at each store, our total would have been $66.20!!!

That was definitely cheaper than each stores total ($70.06 & $79.69), but it was cheaper than Walmart by $2.11.

Wow, that very rarely happens!!! I did notice that some of the prices at Walmart were not very competitive, so I am not sure if this is just a really high cost of living area or what.
