Grocery Price Showdown: Aldi vs Winn-Dixie
This week will be an interesting one because Aldi recently bought up all the Winn-Dixie stores. They haven’t really had time to change much at Winn-Dixie, but it will be fun to see how they compare.
We like to compare real grocery lists of real meal plans for families, so this should be helpful to other families trying to save money on their grocery budget!
Key Takeaways
- Aldi came out 19% cheaper than Winn-Dixie, but was still 6% higher than Walmart.
- Winn-Dixie had a lot of items on sale, but their sale prices were higher than Aldi’s regular price.
- Aldi was not cheaper on every item, so shopping both stores could have saved us an additional $1.84. (not that much!)
Meal Plan and Grocery List
This week we are doing a low budget meal plan for a family of 4 for less than $100. It includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and a sweet treat!
Here is our grocery list and you can see that it came out at $72.05 at the local Walmart in Pensacola, Florida.
Let’s see if Aldi or Winn-Dixie can come close to the Walmart total!
Is Winn Dixie Cheaper than Aldi?
My prediction is that Aldi will come out lower overall, but Winn-Dixie may beat a few prices here and there.

Food for Thought
I always like to see if shopping both stores could potentially save us even more money. So, if we only bought what was cheaper at each store, our total would have been $75.56.
This is only ad additional savings of $1.84, so I am doubtful it would be worth shopping at both places.
It would not really be worth the extra time to me unless I already needed to go to both areas.
