Get Rewarded for Your Receipts with Fetch Rewards

Fetch Rewards is a mobile app that rewards users for shopping with their favorite retailers. The app allows users to earn points by snapping pictures of their receipts and redeeming them for gift cards, donations, and more.

The app typically awards new users at least 2,000 points ($2 value) when they sign up with a referral code. Fetch Rewards is a free-to-download app available on the App Store or Google Play Store. The app is safe to use and has received positive reviews from users. Let’s dive into things you should know about Fetch Rewards!

What is Fetch Rewards?

When a user uploads a receipt through the app, they are awarded points that can be redeemed for gift cards from major brands like Amazon, Target, and Starbucks. The more receipts a user logs, the more points they can accumulate.

Fetch Rewards partners with over 300 brand partner stores, including grocery stores, gas stations, and restaurants. Users can earn at least 25 points on every receipt they upload, regardless of where they shop.

In fact, you can scan more than just grocery store and restaurant receipts! I have scanned receipts for gas, oil changes, doctor visits, pharmacy, and the post office. Most of these receipts only award 25 points, but they do add up.

Most of the bonus points are based off of grocery store items and restaurant locations, but as long as a receipt clearly states the name of the store, standard formatting date of purchase (MM.DD.YY), and the total, it will work.

For instance, I tried to scan a receipt from my local veterinary office, and it had the date of purchase in a weird format (DD.MM.YY), so it did not accept it as a valid purchase.

Fetch Rewards has a user-friendly interface and is easy to use. Users can connect their email address to scan eReceipts, making the process even more convenient. So, receipts for purchases made online at retailers like Amazon, Etsy, and Walmart will work as well to earn points.

Does Fetch Rewards Work with Food Stamps & WIC?

Fetch Rewards is a popular grocery savings app that rewards users for submitting pictures of their receipts. One question that many people have is whether the app works with food stamps. The answer is yes, Fetch Rewards works with food stamps, also known as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), as well as WIC (Women, Infants, and Children).

Here is Georgia we used to have the checks for WIC and Fetch still worked on those receipts as well. We now have the card for WIC, and there is no change to how Fetch Rewards are calculated.

Do You Have to Pay Taxes on Fetch Rewards?

One question that often arises is whether or not users have to pay taxes on the rewards earned through Fetch Rewards on gift cards.

According to Reddit, earnings from Fetch Rewards are considered to be a rebate, and therefore are not taxable. However, it is important to note that any property received is taxable at the amount of value of the property, unless otherwise specified. Cash and gift cards are the same thing for tax purposes. So, if a user earns a gift card through Fetch Rewards, it is important to keep track of the value of the gift card and report it as income on their tax return, if required.

According to the IRS, anytime you receive $600 or more from a company, you may receive a 1099-MISC form to report this money as income. So far, I have yet to see anyone mention that they received a 1099, but it is still possible to receive one in upcoming years.

This is especially true as upcoming changes to the tax reporting system starts for the year 2023. The new guidelines state that any internet-based company must issue a 1099 for any money paid out online.

So just because you have not received a 1099 in the past from Fetch Rewards, does not mean that you might not receive one this year. Please contact your tax professional to see if you need to report any earning from Fetch on your tax return.

Per Fetch’s Terms of Service:

48. Taxes. You agree that you are solely responsible for all applicable federal, state, local or provincial withholding, taxes, and government fees or costs associated with Points or Rewards and any exchanges and distributions.”

Can You Use Other Peoples Receipts for Fetch Rewards?

One of the most common questions people have about Fetch Rewards is whether or not they can use other people’s receipts to earn rewards. The answer is “No, you can only scan your own receipts.”

It clearly states in Fetch’s Terms of Service under fraudulent activity that any attempt to deceive or acquire points not listed in terms of service such as:

  • creating fake receipts
  • creating fake accounts
  • submitting receipts for purchases not made by you
  • buying a product and then returning it just to gain points

These are all listed as possible examples of fraudulent activity that could have your account closed, deducting some or all of your points, and possibly take legal action against you.

So even though it may seem harmless, don’t pick up receipts from others and scan them for your own account. Only use receipts that you personally have purchased.

Is Fetch Rewards Worth It?

Fetch Rewards is a free mobile app that allows users to earn rewards points by scanning receipts from their everyday purchases. But is it worth the time and effort to use this app?

Keep these things in mind when trying to decide if Fetch is worth using:

  1. Must Stay Active– if you don’t scan a receipt for 90 days, your account will be closed, and you will forfeit any accumulated points. Fetch will notify you of inactivity after 60 days and let you know that you have another 30 days to remain active.
  2. Must scan receipts within 2 weeks – According to terms of service, you only have 2 weeks to scan a receipt. Once the date on the receipt is over 2 weeks old, the app will let you know that the receipt is too old to be valid.
  3. Points cannot be transferred– Points technically do not have monetary value until they are redeemed and their TOS states there is no way to transfer your points to someone else’s account or a new to you account.
  4. Digital Copies of all your Receipts– we recently had to return an item to a home improvement store, and I could not find the receipt anywhere. Thankfully I was able to use the app to pull up a copy of the receipt and use it for our exchange with no problems!
  5. Organize your purse/wallet– If you are anything like me and end up with a purse and wallet overwhelmed with receipts, you will find this helpful! Since I scan all my receipts now, my purse and wallet are clutter free. This app helps remind me to clean the paper out of my purse, so now my purse feels many pounds lighter!

Fetch Rewards app will probably never make you a ton of money in gift cards. In fact, if you were to scan 35 receipts a week (which is the max) and only got the 25 reward points, you will potentially only accumulate 45,500. This totals to $45.50 in possible gift cards.

This is not a huge amount of money by any means, but you can earn higher rewards for referring people and by special offers. I have been using the app for about 8 months now, and have accumulated about 38,000 points.

I am saving these points up until I have a special occasion like a birthday or Christmas and will cash out the gift cards to spend instead of using my own money.

This is a fun way to save a few dollars here and there, but this will not be a huge money maker. You could save your points for a treat for yourself or treat your family!

Since it takes hardly any time at all to scan receipts, and it doesn’t cost me anything to do it, I will continue to the app regularly!

If you would like to give it a try, here is my referral code where you will start out with 500 points and I will get 500 points as well.
