How to Tell if Jell-O Instant Pudding Mix Has Gone Bad

As someone who loves Jell-O instant pudding mix, it’s important to know how to tell if it has gone bad. Here are a few things I look for:

  • Expiration date: The first thing I check is the expiration date on the box. If it has passed, I usually try to use it up right away within a few months of the date.
  • Smell: If the mix smells sour or off, it’s a sign that it has gone bad and should be discarded.
  • Color: The color of the mix can also be an indicator of whether it has expired or not. If it looks discolored or has dark spots, it’s best to avoid it.
  • Texture: Finally, I check the texture of the mix. If it feels clumpy or has hardened, it’s a sign that it has gone bad and should not be consumed.

It’s important to note that even if the mix hasn’t expired, it can still go bad if it’s not stored properly. Make sure to keep it in a cool, dry place and seal it tightly after each use. If you’re unsure about the quality of the mix, it’s always better to err on the side of caution and throw it away.

In the case of our 5 years past date instant pudding, the box and packaging were intact and looked fine. The powder was not clumped or sticking together. All signs looked great, so I went ahead and mixed it with milk.
