Different Versions of Potato Salad
Classic American Style
This is a classic for a reason because this is similar to what most people are used to when it comes to potato salad. This can also be the big reason why so many people think they don’t like potato salad!

Southern Style
Of course this is assuming all of the South, when in reality each southern state is going to do it differently. Some will change it up on the ratio of the mayo, mustard, pickle….whereas others will change it up based on seasoning!

Dill Style Potato Salad
This one is also sometimes referred to as a Deli-style potato in restaurants or sandwich shops. This can actually be easily switched up for swapping Dill with any other herb that you prefer!

German Style Potato Salad
This one tends to really separate people. Some love potato super chilled, whereas others love a nice warm potato salad. Honestly both sides have great pros, but skipping this one is definitely a con in my book!

Sour Cream and Chive Potato Salad
This is actually one of my favorites, it is close to a baked potato but served chilled. Which let’s face it is a blessing sometimes in the summer heat!

Loaded Style Potato Salad
Now this one is straight out chilled baked potato right? Maybe! I call it a great leftover buster and an unexpected hit at potlucks!

French or Herb Style Potato Salad
Now this one just comes off as fancy! But don’t worry no pinkies in the air required to eat one! It’s a fun side dish that uses fresh herbs for a super yummy bute.

Wrong Way to Make Potato Salad?
To me there is no wrong way to make potato salad. I say that you should use the ingredients you love and skip the ones you are not a fan of!
For years, I have skipped mayo completely and used Ranch dressing instead to make potato salad. It added a ton of flavor without having the sauce be so thick.
You can also easily substitute Greek yogurt, sour cream, or plain regular yogurt. There are endless possibilities when it comes to potato salad, so don’t settle for what potato salad has to be…. Make it how you want!
