Canned Carrot Ideas to Try at Dinner Time!
Canned carrots get a lot of hate, and I get it because they are kind of mushy and don’t taste like much….. BUT there is actually a lot we can do to turn these guys into a great side dish for dinner!
First, the easy thing to do is make sure you drain the carrots and rinse them. This will get rid of any metallic taste. Then you can saute them in butter and seasoning. Easy Peasy!
But what if we wanted to go all in on canned carrots and make them amazing? That is where these next few ideas really come in handy! Don’t forget that these ideas can also be used for fresh carrots and even frozen carrots too.
What to make with Canned Carrots?
1. Parmesan Roasted Carrots
This is actually one of the few dishes where I like the grated parmesan instead of the regular shredded parmesan cheese in the dairy aisle!

2. Carrot and Pineapple Salad
This is such a quick and easy side dish. My kid’s totally see this as fruit and forget that it has carrots in it too!

This one totally works with maple syrup, agave syrup, or even pancake syrup. Just use what you have to add some sweetness!

This could not get any easier, but I swear adding the lemon juice and garlic just knocks this one out the park in terms of flavor!
5. Ranch Carrots
I admit that I love ranch seasonings, so it only makes sense to use them on carrots too!

6. Carrot and Cheddar Mash
My kids are actually not huge fans of mashed potatoes, but they will easy mashed carrots! Crazy right?
7. Carrot Casserole
This one is hard to describe, but oh my goodness is it tasty. I learned this one at a work lunch potluck a zillion years ago!

8. BBQ Carrots
I learned this one from a seasoned mom that sad all she had to do was add BBQ sauce to any veggies to get her kids to eat them! She was totally right too!
9. Carrot and Apple Slaw
This is another fun side dish that totally “tricks” my kids into thinking they are just having fruit!

10. Carrot and Potato Hash

Canned Carrot Ideas
I hope these canned carrot ideas have inspired you to try something new for dinner. Canned carrots can get a little pricey in the grocery store, so I try to wait until they go on sale! My local store just recently had Libby’s canned vegetables on sale for 2 cans for $1, that’s a great stock up price for me, so I grabbed 8 cans.
Don’t forget that these ideas can totally work with frozen carrots or fresh carrots, so feel free to try them out. I personally am not a huge fan of frozen carrots, but you like them you should totally go for it!
