One Basic Sweet Muffin Recipe, Endless Flavor Twists

I love to start with a basic recipe or formula and then add a little of this and that in order to make a super yummy meal! So today we are going to that with sweet muffins!

I know it is super tempting to just start with a basic muffin mix and those can be really expensive, but making muffins from scratch is just as simple. The longest part is just measuring out the ingredients!

Basic Muffin Method

The key to making muffins is separating your ingredients into two teams: the wet ingredients and the dry ingredients.

Once your ingredients are separated, mix them together until combined, then add your add ingredients to your dry ingredients.

Now this gives us our base to our muffins but we really haven’t added any flavor yet… The great thing is that you really only need about 1 cup of “fun stuff” to add flavor.

I find that the best thing to do is go through your cabinets, fridge, and freezer. This is the perfect time to use up little ends and bits. I love to raid my baking supplies for random items that need to be used up!

My kids also tend to bring home fun snacks from school like boxes of raisins, flavored apple sauce, and even flavored dried cranberries. These are great options to add to muffins!

Now the great thing about sweet muffins is that there are so many great ways to bake them! Of course, you can do regular muffins or mini muffins, but other fun ways to bake them is in a loaf pan or my husband’s favorite using a square cake pan!

Depending on which pan you use, it will affect your baking times, so keep an eye on your muffins and pull them when they are nice and golden brown. I like to use a toothpick just to make sure!

Muffin Flavor Options

I recently made a batch of sweet muffins that I flavored with 2 mushed bananas and a pack of watermelon flavored cranberries! I will say that because I used 2 bananas, I ended up with 12 regular sized muffins and 15 mini muffins.

So, keep in mind that the amount of “fun stuff” that you add will directly affect how many muffins you make. I like to try to keep the amount to be 1 cup but occasionally I go overboard!
