Hamburger Gravy over Rice
Hamburger Gravy over Rice
Ingredients
- 1 cup of white rice
- 1lb ground beef
- 8 oz mushrooms (sliced)
- Brown Gravy Mix
- 12oz bag of Mixed Vegetables
- French Bread
Instructions
1. In a sauce pan, combine 1 cup white rice & 2 cups water. Bring to a boil, and then cover and reduce heat for about 20 minutes.
2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and saute the sliced mushrooms. Once fully cooked, drain any excess grease.
3. Add in gravy pack and amount of water per directions. Bring to a boil and reduce heat. My kids don’t like everything mixed together, so now I microwave the veggies in order to keep them
separate. Otherwise, I would add the frozen veggies to the pan with the beef and onions, mix well, and stir until fully defrosted.
4. We like to serve the hamburger gravy over the rice with a side of French bread. You can easily make that into butter bread, garlic bread, or use any leftover cheese for cheesy bread.
Possible Swaps
This recipe is super forgiving and easy to adjust based on what’s in your pantry. Ground turkey, chicken, or pork can replace the ground beef without changing the flavor too much once the gravy mix is added.
If you don’t have fresh mushrooms, a can of mushrooms or even a diced onion can add similar depth.
You can swap the rice for mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or even toast for a fun twist on an open-faced hot sandwich.
Any type of frozen or canned vegetables work here; green beans, peas, or mixed veggies all fit right in.
And for the bread, anything from sandwich bread to dinner rolls or biscuits will do the trick.

The goal of each weekly plan is to make family dinners simple, satisfying, and affordable all while using easy-to-find ingredients. This Hamburger Gravy over Rice is the perfect cozy comfort meal that fits right into that plan.
