8 Delicious Recipes to Make with Canned Pumpkin that is not Pumpkin Pie!

Fall and holiday seasons area wonderful time to stock up on baking supplies. One of my favorite ones to grab at a good price is canned pumpkin. Not the pumpkin pie mix, but just pumpkin puree.

We tend to only use canned pumpkin for pumpkin pie or other classic pumpkin desserts, so I wanted to share some fun ways you can add pumpkin to your everyday life. It doesn’t have to be just for special holidays!

Canned pumpkin also lasts a long time, so grab a few cans now and have yummy pumpkin flavor all year long. Some stores don’t even carry it all year long, so it’s best to grab some when you can.

What is Easy to Make with Canned Pumpkin?

I have tried to stick with mostly items that we could use for breakfast, lunch, dinners, or snacks!

1. Pumpkin Overnight Oats

This recipe has it all mixed up together, but you can also layer this in a jar and then shake to a combine!

2. Pumpkin Cornbread

I totally figured this one out because I had 1/2 a cup of pumpkin puree to use up! It gives the bread a beautiful color and a little sweetness. I used one of the large packs of cornbread mix or 2 of the smaller packs of mix.

3. Pumpkin Dip

This was actually a very fancy appetizer that we served at holiday parties, but it is totally yummy and a great snack!

4. Overnight Pumpkin French Toast

I love pumpkin pie, and this is a great way to get all those decadent flavors but have it for breakfast or brunch. (It’s actually really good for dessert with some vanilla ice cream on top too!)

5. Chorizo Pumpkin Pasta

Chorizo is actually pretty strong, so it makes the pumpkin not so obvious. It’s a fun dinner if your kids don’t think they like veggies!

6. Pumpkin Cake Bread

This is super moist and cakey bread that is delicious. I actually prefer the mini loaves, so I don’t have to share!

7. Pumpkin Hummus

I had this in a store bought version and it was so yummy and unexpected. So, I had to make my own version. I typically leave out the Tahini paste, but if you like the flavor you can include it.

8. Pumpkin Mac and Cheese

I had this at a potluck and was shocked when I found out it had pumpkin in it. It was so good and a nice twist on mac and cheese. The pumpkin flavor is very subtle and almost tastes like a butternut squash or sweet potato.

Fun Stuff to Make with Pureed Pumpkin

Now all these recipes are using canned pureed pumpkin, but you can also totally just buy a pie pumpkin and roast it yourself. After Halloween, I see grocery stores practically begging people to take home reduced price pumpkins.

So, if you can find one cheap enough, it is totally worth it to try baking it and pureeing it yourself. Don’t forget you can also freeze pumpkin puree for later too! If it is only a small amount, I freeze it in an ice cube tray, if it is more than 1 cup, I just use a Ziploc style bag!
