Grocery Price Showdown: Fort Wayne, Indiana

This was an interesting week for a price comparison! We started with our $70 comfort meals menu, and it included a bunch of pantry staples/basics.

We know that not everyone likes to shop at Walmart, so we look at other local stores in the area to see how their prices compare. This can help you decide where you get more food for your money.

Stores we compared this week:

  • Walmart
  • Aldi
  • Meijer
  • Target
  • Kroger
  • Save A Lot
  • The Fresh Market
  • Fresh Thyme

These were all the grocery stores within 20 miles of zip code: 46808. Statistics show that the average person is more likely to grocery shop within 20 miles of where they live or work!

Fort Wayne, IN Grocery Store Prices from Cheapest to Highest

We shopped each store’s website for prices. Only Save A Lot and Fresh Thyme were from Instacart. As with any online food prices, these may vary from in-store prices.

*Save A Lot and The Fresh Market were each missing an item this week! Aldi was missing 2 items!

Here is the breakdown of all the grocery prices:

**Please note that Save A Lot only had ground turkey in a 3lb roll, so that is why this price is so much higher than the other stores***

What if we shopped multiple stores?

Sometimes you can save a lot of money just by going to more than one store, so we put that to the test with Meijer and Kroger.

If we only shopped what was cheaper at each store, our total would have been $78.28. That was definitely cheaper than Meijer’s total of $84.00 and Kroger’s total of $84.50.

Unfortunately, shopping both places still ended up about $10 more expensive than just shopping at Walmart. This is one of those weeks, that I would definitely consider getting most of the basics at Walmart!
