Grocery Price Showdown: Cub Foods vs Aldi
This week we will be shopping at both Hy-Vee and Kowalski’s in the Minneapolis area to see who has better prices.
We love to use real lists for our comparison, so we will be using our newest list of 6 dinners for $60 to test both stores.
Key Takeaways
- The difference between Aldi and Cub was only $0.56
- Aldi would have been cheaper if you could buy individual lemons and onions.
- Cub Foods had a lot of items on sale this week that we needed!
Meal Plan and Grocery List
This meal plan was priced at the Super Walmart in Minneapolis and came out at $57.58.
Is X Cheaper than X?
Cub Foods is a more traditional grocery store, whereas Aldi is considered a discount retailer. So it will be interesting to see how prices vary.

Wow! This is the closest comparison; I have done in a long time! Aldi was just barely cheaper than Cub Foods by $0.56!!!
Food for Thought
Even though both stores were super close in price, I thought it was still worth it to see if going to both places could actually save us some more money!
If we only bought what was cheapest at each store, our total would have been $63.92. That is an additional savings of $13.22 (about 17%).
I would say that an additional $13.22 in savings is definitely worth it going to both locations!
