Brown Sugar Magic: 3 Cozy Dinners on a Budget (MM#30)

Brown sugar usually steals the spotlight for holiday baking, but it often gets overlooked as a dinner ingredient! Well, not this week. We’re showing you how a little brown sugar can work its sweet magic in savory dishes, adding richness, depth, and that irresistible caramelized flavor.

For this mini menu, we grabbed just 16 items at our local Super Walmart and spent only $24.24 total! These three dinners are cozy, flavorful, and proof that you can stretch your grocery budget while still keeping dinner exciting.

Grocery List Needed for the Mini Menu

If you want to see the full shopping list on Walmart in your area, all you have to do is click my Walmart Grocery list and change the zip code to your area. *This is an affiliate link, and I do make a small commission on any purchases, but at no additional cost to you!*

**** Please note, that every once in a while, an item that I pick turns out to be regional. This means that it may be a much higher price in some areas. Always double-check the list and if you see an item that is much higher than normal, just adjust as needed.

Garlic-Glazed Drumsticks

Sweet, sticky, and perfectly caramelized, these drumsticks get their flavor from brown sugar, soy sauce, and garlic. Serve them over rice with broccoli for an easy family dinner. You can use chicken thighs or even bone-in breasts if that’s what’s on sale, and broccoli can be easily swapped for green beans or a frozen vegetable mix.

Sweet & Smoky Meatballs with Mashed Potatoes

Ground turkey meatballs simmer in a sweet BBQ and brown sugar glaze that makes the perfect topping for creamy mashed potatoes. You can use any ground meat you have on hand, and adjust the sauce to your taste by adding a little more BBQ sauce for smokiness or ketchup for extra sweetness.

Pineapple-Glazed Smoked Sausage Skillet

Smoked sausage, pineapple, and bell pepper cook together in a brown sugar soy glaze for a quick one-pan dinner that’s bursting with flavor. Kielbasa or turkey sausage both work well, and you can mix up the veggies with onions or even a handful of frozen stir-fry vegetables for a shortcut.
